What it is like to be the Head Coordinators of Aarhus Case Competition

Head Coordinators, ACC 2020

We are Ditte Storvang, Sofie Rudbech Mathisen and Mathias Jakobsen, and together we are the Head Coordinators of Aarhus Case Competition 2020. The position as a Head Coordinator is unlike anything we have done so far in our lives as students. It goes without saying that it is more immersive, interesting, challenging, and fun than any job we have ever had.

We are first and foremost just students at Aarhus University, and thus, we always have to find the perfect balance between our studies, our student jobs and working on ACC. Even though school should be at the top of our priority list, we must admit that it is often replaced with ACC tasks, simply because the work we get to perform is so exciting.

Our tasks as Head Coordinators

As Head Coordinators, we have the overall responsibility for ACC 2020 and everything it includes. Our primary tasks are to outline the overall strategy for ACC 2020, hire a committed and talented committee, form partnerships with inspiring companies, and ensure that the daily operations are on track. All this work is very gratifying and might sound a bit more glamorous than it is. However, being Head Coordinators also include always showing up first and similarly, be the last to leave. In one way or another, we communicate about ACC related aspects every single day, to ensure that we all are consistently aligned.

We work in close collaboration with our partners and the ACC Advisory Board. The Advisory Board consists of the Founding Fathers of ACC and former Head Coordinators. They share their experiences and help us when we face challenging situations. The partnerships are also a fundamental aspect of our work in ACC. The minute we were hired as Head Coordinators back in June, we started reaching out to different potential partners and launched the partner constellation that will form ACC 2020.

Moreover, the most important part for us, is the ACC committee. Hiring the committee was a challenge, unlike anything we had done before. In order to prepare ourselves, we did a lot of research, talked to past committee members and Head Coordinators, but in the end, we had to go with our guts. And thankfully it worked – we now have a very dedicated, fun and a hard-working committee consisting of students from various studies.

What we learn as Head Coordinators

The role of a Head Coordinator is primarily based on project management, which means that we learn new management skills every single day. We lead the committee, and this is by far the most rewarding challenge for all three of us. It has been a blast working with the committee so far, and we cannot wait to show you what they are preparing for you in 2020.

It is fair to say that we cannot wait until ACC takes place in week 14. For us, the most important thing is that everyone participating in ACC 2020 will learn a lot more about case solving and be challenged professionally, while they have fun and enjoy all the social activities we have arranged for them.

We will see you in week 14!
